Biography

Gina Mattiello is a versatile artist working at the intersections of literary text, vocal performance and experimental theatre.

As an author she has published prose (Im Bett des Imaginariums, Passagen Verlag 2021; Aufzeichnungen einer Blinden, Eremitage am Kamp 2025) and poetry (Zikadengesänge, Edition art & science 2015), and writes libretti and text versions for contemporary music theatre. In 2026 her first novel caput mortuum will be published by Passagen Verlag. Her texts work with fragmentation, footnotes and an aesthetic of feeling one's way through the uncertain.

As a voice performer she interprets contemporary scores between speaking and singing. She works with composers such as Bernhard Lang, Beat Furrer, Elisabeth Harnik, Christoph Herndler, Charlotte Seither, Pia Palme, Reinhold Schinwald and others, and appears at festivals such as Wien Modern, Wiener Festwochen, Klangspuren Schwaz and steirischer herbst, as well as with ensembles such as PHACE, quartett22 and oenm.

Alongside interpreting contemporary scores, she is regularly involved in the artistic conception of projects — as a dramaturg, as a co-author of musical concepts and as co-director of collective structures. From 2007 to 2012 she curated the e_may festival for new and electronic music together with Pia Palme; since 2017 she has co-directed büro lunaire with Reinhold Schinwald.

As an actress she embodies experimental literary texts by Elfriede Jelinek (KEIN LICHT., 2013), Kathrin Röggla (wir schlafen nicht, 2011), Heiner Müller (Quartett, 2021), Marlen Haushofer (Die Wand, 2025) and others.
